Shouvik Sur

Theoretical & Computational Physicist

I am a theoretical physicist with expertise in computational many-body physics. I am interested in the mechanisms and diagnostics of emergent behaviors of complex matter.

My past research has focused on quantum states that arise from the competition between mutually frustrating interactions, and, consequently, often defy conventional frameworks for classifying quantum matter.

I am currently working on many-body aspects of quantum technologies and machine learning. Along the first direction, I am (i) developing new kinds of quantum sensors on cavity quantum materials platforms that can harness the high quantum resources intrinsic to quantum materials [builds on Nature Commun. 17, 4404 (2026)]; (ii) exploring the efficiency of polymorphic quantum hardware for optimizing over independent tasks [builds on arXiv:2604.21913 (2026)]. Along the second direction, (i) I study ML algorithms and architectures using the methods of statistical physics and dynamical systems to develop a controlled understanding of training dynamics and memory; (ii) I develop computational methods, based on machine learning algorithms, to access new regimes of strongly correlated systems and quantum transport in numerical experiments.
